Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to answer this question and tell someone something about what you’re writing.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Co děláš?
Píšu si deník.
Once more with the English translation.
Co děláš?
“What are you doing?”
Píšu si deník.
“I'm writing my journal.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing?”
That's: Co děláš?
Listen to it again: Co děláš?, Co děláš?
This Czech sentence literally translates as “What you do?"
But it means “What are you doing?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Píšu si [object].
This Czech sentence literally translates as “I write myself [object]."
But it means “I'm writing [object].”
For example:
“I'm writing my journal.”
Píšu si deník., Píšu si deník.
